Pottery Barn Inspired Industrial Side Table

It's time for Themed Furniture Makeover again and this month our group is featuring industrial projects.  Since I just wrapped up two industrial-style makeovers, a metal file cabinet and an industrial apothecary cart, I was hoping inspiration would strike a magical third time.

After doing a Google search, I found this Pottery Barn table and found my inspiration!  This retails for $499 and I knew I could come up with a thriftier option.

Since it was a relatively simple design, I decided Triple Threat could help me build a version of this table using galvanized pipe.  After doing a little Home Depot research, all the parts needed to build it totaled about $100.

While I debated the pros and cons of going this route, my Dad called to tell me he found a side table set out for bulk trash and rescued it for me. That man is on fire, I tell ya!  I have scored some amazing finds thanks to him!

When I saw it, I couldn't believe my eyes.  It was a PERFECT specimen to restyle into an industrial side table!  And it was a total FREEBIE, which makes it even more perfect!

After a good cleaning with TSP {make sure to rinse well with water afterward}, I lightly sanded to ensure the surface was perfectly smooth.

Using my favorite product ever, Java gel {aka The One Coat Wonder}, I applied an extremely light coat to both shelves, wiping off the excess to create a multi-dimensional wood grain.

To recreate the look of industrial pipe, I painted the legs and apron black.

I saw this metal ribbon at Hobby Lobby awhile back and have been dying to use it on a project.  When I was brainstorming how to incorporate metal accents, I remembered it and knew I just HAD to use it on the apron of the table.

The metal ribbon was all shiny and new and I wanted a more rusted, aged look.  A good spritz with Modern Masters Metal Effects Rust Activator and voila, the perfect galvanized zinc appeared!

I needed 12-inch strips to mount to each side of the apron so I carefully cut with tin snips.  This stuff is sharp so be careful and wear gloves!

Once all the strips were cut, Triple Threat mounted the strips using liquid nails and a whole lot of clamps.

NOW, THAT'S A COLLECTION OF CLAMPS!

The metal ribbon was a perfect fit for the apron and I am in love with the outcome!

When the vision in your head turns out better than you imagined...it looks like this.

For the first time ever, Triple Threat said {BEFORE I DID} that he wanted to keep our Pottery Barn inspired industrial table.  How could I refuse him, right?

Thanks to my Dad, I was able to create my own twist on the Pottery Barn table for almost free! I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'm this lucky for next month's challenge!

Since you're here, I hope you'll take a look at all the other industrial Themed Furniture Makeovers from my talented group of friends.
