Telephone Table 9-1-1

As one of my first pieces, I am extremely proud of this telephone table and how Triple Threat {Handsome, Handy, Helpful} Hubby and I ReStyled and Rescued it.

I donated the telephone table’s twin to my son’s preschool auction and it ended up being so popular, I had a few requests to custom paint two more. How’s that for starting a custom painting business with a bang?

Either due to age or neglect the twin table was in desperate need of a little TLC.  The top layer of the table was built using strips of wood glued together.  It was such an old table, the glue had disintegrated and the boards were separating.  Triple Threat sanded and re-glued the table and then the fun part started: painting.

I custom blended a pale turquoise for the base color and then added a stencil design in minky silver.  Once painted, I applied a dark wax over the entire table.  Completely ReStyled and ready to go to its new home.  Or so I thought…

Boy, have my picture-taking skills improved since this one.

A few weeks later I received a message from the owner the top had started separating again.  Say what?!  Since it had been meticulously glued by Triple Threat, we chalked {excuse the pun!} it up to a difference in climate change in its new home. It really didn’t matter WHY it happened since regardless it would be made right.

We didn’t have a duplicate to replace the telephone table, the only option we had was to make a new top.  No problem with Triple Threat in the picture.

He began by tracing out a template for the new top and then cut out a replacement and routed the edge to match the original.

Once the new top was ready, I painted and stenciled it to match the bottom half of the table.  Triple Threat did such a fantastic job the new top was an exact replica of the old one.  Except better since it was cut from a solid piece of wood it would never split again.

Didn't Triple Threat do a fantastic job replicating the top?

Voila!  The telephone table was finished. Again.  Better than ever thanks to Triple Threat.  What do you think?  Can you tell which table was the original?

My work reviving this telephone table was finished.  The client was ecstatic with the  results and we were thrilled we could not only paint but restore this beautiful piece.
